For neurogenic bladder emptying disorders such as after spinal cord injury, hydrophilic coated catheters are used as part of intermittent self-catheterism. The user inserts the catheter into the bladder independently through the urethra and empties it at regular intervals.

The catheters have a coating activated by water contact. This makes the surface of the catheter slippery and it can be pushed into the bladder without any effort or irritation of the urethra.

The product range of medfein consists of:

Surf-Kath = hydrophilic coated catheter for intermittent self-catheterism

and

Surf-Kath Plus = hydrophilic coated catheter for intermittent self-catheterism with water dispenser.

How to work on the example Surf-Kath Plus

After the water dispenser has burst, the leaking water activates the hydrophilic coating of the catheter. After a few seconds, the catheter is ready for use. Thanks to the included introduction aid, the catheter can be taken without having to touch the surface. The catheter can be inserted hygienically correctly into the urethra and bladder. After emptying the bladder, the catheter is carefully pulled out of the urethra and disposed of.
